Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that’s triggered by a terrifying event- either experiencing it or witnessing it. Symptoms may include flashbacks, nightmares and severe anxiety, as well as uncontrollable thoughts about the event.
Paramedics are called to many different situations; they don’t truly know what they will see and what circumstances they will be facing at any moment. One Paramedic stated,
“I’ve seen things as a medic that most people have only seen in a movie and I can’t close my eyes and wait for the scene to finish”
” Imagine performing CPR on someone then having to tell a family member their Father, Mother, Daughter, Son as died. They did not get to say goodbye. A Paramedic will see this life changing event happen in front of their eyes and will have to move on because their radio dispatch as told them there is another call waiting for them“
Paramedics in the GTA region who give so much of themselves to help others in critical times of need, now we need to give back and help support them.
The night will have a live music theme with medics who play in bands when not at their “day jobs”. Artists will perform either solo acoustically and up to full band performances showcasing their other talents. At the moment there will be Musical Medics form EMS services of Toronto, Peel, Guelph / Waterloo and York regions. There will be fundraising activities throughout the evening such as raffle draws, prizes and possibly Chair Massages! Emcee hosts will be Morgan Philips of Emergency Monologs , The 10-19 Band.
